The founder of Bumpy’s Café, John Evans, says when he opened Bumpy’s in 2005, it was to meet an unfulfilled need. “There was a real need in Calgary’s downtown for great coffee and great food all in one place,” he says.
Bumpy’s introduced the “third wave of coffee movement” to Calgary, a global movement “to take coffee and espresso to the next level,” says John. What does that mean, exactly? As John explains, customers who have third-wave coffee can expect that espresso shots have been pulled properly, that milk has been steamed appropriately and that latte art is floating in the foam.
Bumpy’s has been the recipient of several awards for its coffee, including the Krups Kup of Excellence on three separate occasions. (Krups manufactures high-end culinary equipment, including coffee and espresso machines.)
The food was excellent, and the coffee was pretty too, lots of dairy alternatives. But I can’t get over the place sucked overall. Some important looking bozo started having a heated conversation with one of the employees about a batch muffins. I’m sorry but I don’t need to hear that while I’m trying to order. I think the guy was the owner, not confident but bud, have these conversations elsewhere.
